Are you looking for a rewarding way to give back?

Strides For Heroes is always on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers eager to create positive change in the lives of our heroes! We offer a variety of meaningful opportunities for individuals to contribute, and while horse experience is a plus, it’s not required. Our dedicated volunteer mentors and staff are here to provide all the training you need to get started!

From farm maintenance and barn care to office support, event planning, and donation drives, there truly is something for everyone. Our organization thrives thanks to the selfless dedication of volunteers like you, and we deeply appreciate your willingness to support our heroes and horses, no matter your background with equines.

Getting Started: Onboarding Process

To begin your volunteer journey with us, all new volunteers must attend a basic orientation session. During this informative meeting, our SFH volunteer coordinators will walk you through our policies, procedures, and essential safety measures. After completing the orientation, you’ll be welcome to sign up for shifts

What Will You Be Doing?

As a volunteer, you’ll be committing about two hours per shift to important barn chores. Your tasks may include mucking stalls, cleaning and filling water buckets, and distributing grain and hay. You might even find yourself unloading and stacking hay or wood shavings! These daily chores play a vital role in the smooth operation of SFH and must be completed rain or shine. Consistent attendance is crucial, so if you can’t commit to regular shifts, this may not be the right fit for you.

Recap

No prior experience with horses is necessary! All volunteers must first complete an onboarding session focused on barn and facility-related tasks, which does not involve direct contact with horses. Once you’ve completed the training, you may be eligible for shifts that include hands-on opportunities with our beautiful equine friends. In addition to working with the horses, volunteers can also assist with fundraising efforts and event planning, contributing to the success of our programs. While working with horses is a joy, safety is our priority, and proper training with gradual exposure is essential.

Ready to join our team? We can’t wait to welcome you aboard! Your support makes a world of difference!
